Long ago, before Taluvaeyel the Hunter ascended to the heavens, he hunted the western edge of Atanastan. With his ever faithful hound Eruhin He chased down stag and boar. Eruhins fame was great and had even acquired his own name and title given to Taluvaeyel in a dream and was known as 'Eruhin the loyal' to all the tribes around. No little love was given to him also by the lord's family and was even permitted to sleep indoors.
One night both Lord and companion lay sound asleep, exhausted from their chase of a white stag that eluded them, but not alone. A wolf had entered into the homestead while the lord's guards were in their cups. With guile it stealthily creeped into the chamber of Carragantir, Lord Taluvaeyel's infant son and snatched him.
Ever wary Eruhin saw the wolf as it carried the dead child across the courtyard and attacked with a ferocity befitting a dog 3 times his size. After a brief battle the house began to stir. The wolf recieved many wounds and Eruhin few. He chased the mortally wounded wolf off into the barley and returned to howl at the corpse of Carragantir, who he loved much.
Now here turns this tragedy into sorrow, for when Taluvaeyel left his chamber and queen and entered the courtyard, he saw Eruhin standing over his dead heir and screamed in sorrow. Eruhin had blood on his hackles and the lord grabbed his spear and in a rage of depair slew Eruhin, whom he had mistakingly blamed for his sons death.
The household mourned.
When the sun arose and the mists of the nearby bogs and swamps could be seen, the household guard, shamed at their drunkenness, entered into the barley to patrol the area and discovered the sorry corpse of the wolf.
Realising what he'd done the Lord was overcome with grief.
"I have another son! Where do i find a friend as faithful as he who sought to defend my family!" he bellowed.
In honour of his faithful hound he built a mound and upon it placed the reverant body of Eruhin.
When the summer festival arrived later that year Lord Taluvaeyel went to the top of the mound to be Eruhin's faithful companion and place bluebells on his berth therefore reminding himself of his faithlessness on that baneful night. Only to discover that Eruhin's grave was empty. In a panic he stormed around his manse demanding to know who stole it and that they would pay with their lives.
Wisely, the Queen pointed to a flash of light as they sky was dimming over the mound and said:
"You seek the faithful hound which you slew? You want to bring death to those who have taken him? Then look to the gods...for they have placed him as their hunting hound in the heavens. Go shout at the gods for showing faith in friendship when you could not. It is Eruhin in the evening sky who chases the sun to bed."
The lord was shamed and learned in the coming years to show more patience and humility.
Here ends the tale of Eruhin the Loyal and how he came to chase the heavens.

This story is nicely done. Original I take it?

I liked the part where the gods place the hunting hound in the heavens, shaming the lord even further.

"The beatings will continue until moral improves!"
