This is actually a rules question, but there seems to be no specific sub-forum for that, hence this post here.

New Gods Handbook seems to be lacking the rules that specify when followers lose faith. It states: "Spending too much Belief on your followers throughout the year creates dependency, while spending too little creates loss of faith." However it fails to indicate how much is "too little", it also does not describe what loss of faith means.

Does loss of faith apply to all followers or just somoe? If it is some, do those followers not provide Belief next year?

I look forward to your answers!

It should be on the next page. That's pg.97 "If you spent more than 6 Belief per 10 followers, you create dependency. For the next year, the followers are dependent upon such Miracles, and you must spend at least 6 Belief per 10 followers on Miracles that directly help them or thier faith waivers. If you do not spend at least 6 Belief per 10 followers next year, the followers suffer from loss of faith for the year after that." Only followers that you've had for the entire year count towards this calculation.
Loss of Faith means those followers only produce half their normal amount of belief the following year.

Right on that is very true. Let me post the rest of the rules:

Loss of Faith
If you spend less than 1 Belief per 10 followers to create Miracles that directly help them, you create loss of faith. Your followers believe you have abandoned them or are ignoring them. This year, they produce half their normal Belief (see “Gain Belief,” below).
Followers can suffer from loss of faith many years in a row—as long as you don’t spend enough Belief, they lose their faith. After two consecutive years in which the followers suffer from loss of faith, you lose 10% of them. They leave for greener pastures: for gods who care about them. If another year passes in which the followers have lost their faith, another 10% leave, and so forth. You lose these followers before you gain Belief for the year.

Hmm,

I just noticed the rules I just posted missing from the document. This is a layout error and will be corrected in future copies. We will be posting a corrected copy of NGoM NGH DSS001 very soon. Thanks for pointing that out.

I am glad someone mentioned about there being a lack of some rules... I was going to run a campaigne with my gaming group and when we started to make up the characters the character sheet was great but the book did not coruspond with it at all... it would be nice the next time your put out a book to make everything flow nicely. Also there are quite afew rules missing.... it seems to me that the rules should have been playtested alot more then they were. I have done many playtestings and it seems to me that this could have gone through alot more then it seems it did.

Well we'd like to help you if you think rules are missing. Do you have a specific question so that we can help you?

Hello boydsbearlover2007,

The rules are all there for you to play the game. Loss of faith is the ONLY rule that did not make it to print due to a formatting error, not an author error.

Character sheets on the other hand will get a revision in the following weeks.

The rules have been playtested by several gamers who do visit the forums here. If you need some help deciphering the rules let us know.

Thanks,

Richard Leon

I have noticed alot of rules that should have been made clearer. As for the rules that I had questions with there were quite afew and I had to make up "house-rules" for alot of them... one for example was there was no mention of how many hit points that a God had. Thank you for your responses. As I said before my players are now used to the house rules.

Well everyone should do what they want with the rules system. It is made to use abuse or totally discard.

FYI The rules are set up so gods do not have hit points or any type of mortal stats. They are gods and not mortals. To kill a god you must go after their followers. It is a symbiotic relationship which should be noted when playing. Gods cannot function without mortals and need them for belief. Without belief gods will dissapear. So a god starts off with 100 belief which you can use as hit points and magic pool. Every year thier followers generate belief which is like getting your hit points back and your mana/ magic pool etc. So if there are no followers and the god uses its belief up they are nothing more than spirits.

I hope that answers your question and I do want you to enjoy the game.

Also we plan to do a Heroes of the World game which deals with demigods and mortal heroes. They will have stats based on the game mechanics and skills.

On a final note: The playtest forum which has been hidden will now be open for viewing, but not posting. I hope anyone else who has questions will post or look there for answers.

Stay tuned for a Frequently Asked Questions section on the website (which will get a facelift).

Just wanted to add to what Richard said. Nobody has hit points in the entire game. The closest thing to hit points would be the God's belief. You can't just walk up and kill a god. The game mechanics make it so that you have to either A)kill all of his/her followers or B)get him/her to use up all of their belief on miracles and follow that up with killing some of their people(since a god with any common sense wouldn't spend their belief down to 0).

In response to your posts... So God's can't be hurt period? I talked it over with my group and we have decided that while the game had potential, it has too many flaws to be really playable and we have gotten tired of having to fake the rules all the time. The local Brnes and Noble has a copy of Scion that is calling my name...

If they incarnate on earth, that physical form can be killed. That causes the followers faith to waiver and you lose belief. The god re-appears in his/her celestial realm unless the loss of belief from the conflict reduces him/her to 0 belief and he has no followers, in which case the god is completely destroyed.
If you were looking for anything like Scion in NGoM, you looked in the wrong place. NGoM is like an RTS while Scion is a first-person shooter. If you're looking to play a game with long drawn-out battles(via hit points, grids, maneuvers, etc) then this game isn't for you. The root of the conflict resolution is one die versus one die with modifiers, winner takes all.

But, there are no rules for how much damage a God can sustain before it is killed, if all you have is a belief system.

So in other words, this SHOULD be a board game, like RISK, NOT an RPG?

There are rules for how a god can be destroyed. It's just not called hit points. If you've read the book, you'd know that there is a heavy emphasis on roleplaying and there's no need to use an actual board for play. Obviously the style of play is not what you're looking for since this is not intended to be like Exalted or Scion. In this game, Gods and their powers are connected to their followers, therefor they have a reason to be concerned about their fate. The focus of the game isn't going to be gods going into dungeons, finding loot, and leveling up. Several books down the line, there will be another book for people who like that traditional style of play that will be a slightly more complex system for just playing a hero in NGoM.
We're sorry to hear that this style of play isn't for you and we wish you fun gaming with Scion. Make sure to get that third book since I'll have some art in it. :)

As for buying more books, I will not be buying Fate's Guide or the third book... I buy role-playing books for the rules not the art.
