Guys and Gals,

As gamers who have been in the hobby for sometime, or newer players who are just starting, we all have a game we "cut our teeth" with. Which game was your first?

As for me my memory is kinda bad but I remember having the red D&D box set with the wax crayon you could color your dice with. After that I had a cool game that was a simple d10 in a paperback novel based on a novel series by Margaret Wise and Tracy Hickman. I cannot think past that, but I do remember also having a ton of those choose your own adventure books.

I was introduced to roleplaying with the discovery of the third Fighting Fantasy gamebook, The Forest of Doom. I didn't really play a proper rpg until almost ten years later, despite roleplaying being my dominant interest and (passive) hobby!

Games I regard as being most influential on me are Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Call of Cthulhu, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, and, perhaps most of all, a game created by friends at university called Mortal Coils (nothing to do with a game with an almost similar name) along with the campaigns that were run with it.

However, I still feel a debt of gratitude to Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone for Fighting Fantasy. Who knows if I'd have discoved the hobby and been inspired if not for them?

Regards

Robin

I will have to say around high school I did get into Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play and I still love that game, even in its newest incarnation. I hope to run a couple of those games soon.

Basic D&D and Call of Cthulhu. (with a little Bushido and Traveller thrown in!). I wouldve thought Ghostbusters was the simplest system ;-)

I didn't get where I am today.

I've actually played the Ghostbusters RPG but I can't remember the system. It probably was simple. I think I played Toon once and from what I remember there were hardly any rules so I suppose that's more simple.

Greetings everyone,

I started out with D&D, then went to AD&D. I went as far as second edition but kind of got out of it before third edition started. One day I plan to get back into it but serious game play may have to wait till my 4 year old is old enough to play.

the system for Ghostbusters was the same system as West End Games Star Wars as they were published by the same company.

My first RPG was Changeling: the Dreaming 1st ed. by White Wolf. Though the game designers molested the game with too many impotent splats my first campaign was and will always be memorable due to the GM having a very hyper and vivid imagination.
